"Labor" - Team Fortress 2 Capture Point Map

“Labor” is a smaller scaled Capture Point (king of the hill) map that takes place in a dark mining tunnel below the surface. The level allows players of all play styles to contribute to victory. The level’s mix of open space and close-quarter combat zones allow for rapid, strategic, yet balanced combat throughout the level. Players will have to quickly adapt to attacks to successfully maintain control of the Capture Point (CP) in the center of the map.
Through the level’s vertical design, “Labor” allows for various play-styles that support most of TF2’s class abilities. Through balanced lines of sight from the sniper platforms, Snipers can pick players off from specific areas of the CP and its surroundings. The lower portion of the map allows for flanking paths which any Scout or Heavy can take advantage of. The close-quarters of the CP is surrounded by 4 barricades which emphases offensive and defensive tactics, but also allows classes such as Pyro, Demoman, or any other close quartered players to engage in tense and brutal fights over the CP.
Having various different players ranging from the age of 14 – 20 play several matches on this level, over 85% of tester liked the level’s design and flow by the final iteration. I continued to edit the map based off consistent, critical feedback and created solutions to the problems. Problems such as the lines of sights from the sniper platforms were too revealing, making decent sniper players very powerful. Other initial problems were some areas of the lower map being too open. My solution was to add more walls and paths, which allowed for more cover and tactical flanking. The results from these additions were well received. This map reached final state within 2 weeks.
