MW2's "Cliffhanger" Mission Recreated in Far Cry 4
(Intro Only)

Tools Used: Far Cry 4's Map Editor
Made: March 23 - April 8, 2017
Modes: Solo and Co-op

There is no cinematic mode, so the pictures were taken in the editor. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Map Description:
Wanting practice with terrain tools in various engines/editors, I recreated the intro to MW2's classic mission "Cliffhanger" in Far Cry 4's map editor from a scratch. I used three different gameplay videos of the mission along with some pictures as the only means of reference to recreate the level. Based on the references, I accurately recreated the terrain and environment present in the MW2 mission to the best of my ability. The proportions are not perfect, as I improvised areas of the environment not seen in the videos and added my own personal touches.

Using my creativeness to manipulate details, props, and gameplay features in Far Cry 4's editor to accurately match the originals in "Cliffhanger," I was able to capture key points of the mission in my recreation. For example, I used Far Cry 4's fall distance to trigger the "hard fall" animation to create a sense of a long jump and make the player feel like he/she almost fell like in the original MW2 mission. Another example is using the game's ability to show enemies on the minimap to recreate the sense of having the heartbeat sensor attachment to see enemy locations as players had in the classic MW2 mission.

My recreation is made with the Extraction gamemode to provide players an Objective Marker to move towards. This helps capture the linear progression in my recreation and remind players of their intended destination just like the original mission did. I worked on this level in my free-time over the course of two and half weeks, furthering my ability to create varying environments with terrain tools based on video/photo references.
